Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of the Waley Movers website and the services we provide as a licensed Illinois household-goods carrier registered with the Illinois Commerce Commission, holding our own federal operating authority for interstate work. Calling our Milwaukee Avenue desk for a quote, submitting a form on this site, or signing a Waley binding flat indicates that you have read and accepted these terms.
1. Our binding flat
The figure Eduardo Ramirez writes on your walkthrough and Marcus Waley signs on the Milwaukee Avenue desk is binding. It does not change between the email and the final invoice. The only way it moves is if the scope of the job on move-day genuinely grew beyond what was described on the walkthrough — another bedroom of boxes that was not in the inventory, a piano or a gun safe that was not declared, a second stop the buyer asked you to add at the closing table — and in that case the crew chief on the truck stops the meter, tells you in person, and writes the change in writing for your signature before the work continues. No surcharge gets added to your invoice without your written sign-off on move-day.
2. Deposit and payment
A $215 deposit holds your date on the Waley dispatch board. The deposit is refundable if you cancel more than seventy-two hours before the dispatch slot. Inside seventy-two hours, the deposit is forfeited if we cannot fill the slot from the waitlist; we will tell you honestly whether we can. The final invoice is due on completion of the job at the destination curb, payable by credit card, certified check or ACH transfer. Personal checks are accepted in advance only.
3. Insurance and your goods
Waley carries $1,000,000 in cargo coverage. The released-value baseline included with every job is $0.60 per pound per article, which is the federal default for interstate household-goods carriers. Full-value protection at a higher per-pound figure is available as a separate line on your binding flat. The claim window is nine months from the date of delivery, as federal regulation requires. Claims are filed in writing to Janelle Whitaker at the Milwaukee Avenue office and are processed against the inventory list signed at the time of pickup.
4. Access, parking and permits
Where the leaving or destination address requires a Streets & San moving-truck permit, a COI to property management, a freight-elevator reservation or any other access arrangement, Trish Sullivan handles it from intake and the cost is built into the binding flat. Where the building or the block imposes a restriction we were not told about on the walkthrough — an unannounced elevator closure, a no-access window we did not know about, a parking-dibs situation no permit can clear — the crew chief documents the delay on the trip ticket and the binding flat absorbs the first hour of the impact. Beyond that first hour, the meter runs at the hourly rate.
5. Items we will not move
Waley will not load: live ammunition, propane tanks, gasoline, oxygen tanks, hazardous chemicals, illegal substances, live plants on interstate hauls, or live pets. We will move firearms only if they are unloaded, locked, and declared in advance. We will move grandfather clocks, pianos, gun safes and antique heirloom pieces; these are quoted as specialty lifts starting at $455 with the walk-boards, e-track straps, stair-climbing dollies and heated padded truck described on the services page.
6. Storage
Short-term storage at the Milwaukee Avenue indoor heated bay is billed monthly at $135 to $305 per month depending on cubic feet. The first thirty days are pro-rated. Insurance on stored goods is the customer’s responsibility above the released-value baseline; full-value coverage is available as an add-on at the storage agreement.
7. Disputes
Any dispute arising from a Waley job is first addressed by written claim to Janelle Whitaker at the Milwaukee Avenue office and, if not resolved within thirty days, is subject to mediation under the rules of the Illinois Commerce Commission for intrastate work and the Surface Transportation Board for interstate work. Venue for any legal action is Cook County, Illinois.
8. Changes to these terms
Waley may update these terms periodically. The version on this page at the time you sign your binding flat is the version that governs your job. Material changes are emailed to active customers.
